Rescue Team: Stray Puppies On Death Row! RESCUE TEAM:
Stray Puppies on Death Row! Cooper's Chance Animal Rescue rescued three
10 week old female Cattle dog/Queensland healer mixes. These puppies, surrendered to the county shelter as "stray"
were rescued by our Shelter Team. Each week, sometimes every day, this team of dedicated animal protectors does the job that
so many volunteers cannot; they walk the shelters. Each visit they see rows of kennels, filled to capacity, sometimes several
to one kennel, desperate to be saved, their eyes cry for help. Our shelter volunteers rescue dogs and cats on Death Row.
They found
the puppies, 6 total crammed into a kennel, feces covered and coughing, they awaited evaluation, then placed up for public
adoption. One of the male's was quickly adopted, the others waited. Each day the kennel grew dirty; unsanitary conditions.
Many people will turn in a box of puppies or kittens, expecting the shelter to care for them; or thinking puppies and kitties
will get adopted fast. These shelters are over crowed and underfunded, they simply cannot afford the care for thousands of
week old puppies. They end up on death row, a cheaper alternative to vaccinations, sterilization, food and socialization.
Thanks to our team, who had been watching these puppies from the day of intake, were able to secure approval for rescue of
three of the remaining five. Approval is needed for such young puppies; as were removing them before they were old enough
for a rabies vaccination and sterilization. Once rescued, the puppies were transported to Cooper's Chance safe house, bathed,
evaluated and fed. They responded great to the love and affection, and are enjoying their new foster home with lots of attention
and dogs to play and learn from. With the special care of foster volunteer, these puppies will truly have a second chance
at a normal, healthy puppy life. UPDATE! All puppies have found their forever homes! Each sister has a loving, happy
home to spend the holidays with. They are all still very young, but growing quickly and are enjoying their new lives of being
spoiled and loved every day. Please remember to spay and neuter your pet, so many more puppies are born each day and do not
get a second chance. (Mady, now Mati, enjoys
her new forever home...being spoiled for Christmas and lots of love!)

Transport Team: Shiloh Finds a Home AZ to NM! TRANSPORT
TEAM: Shiloh Finds A Home! AZ to NM
Shiloh, a 5 year old Pointer mix who has been with us for
several months has found his new forever home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. On January 20, 2009, Shiloh, along with
The Transport Team, traveled from Phoenix, AZ to the Arizona/New Mexico state line to meet his new forever family.
He shares his new place with a mom and dad and another pointer mix, whom he gets along great with. Shiloh was rescued
from the Maricopa County animal Control shelter where he was scheduled for euthanasia due to a common eye condition
called "cherry eye". His eye was fixed with no additional complications. He is a very sweet and gentle boy.
Preferring a quiet, slow paced life, Shiloh's forever family offers him exactly what he needs and 4 acres of forest
to roam. Shiloh quickly became a favorite of our rescue. He was very shy and weary of strangers; but if he trusted you,
he stuck to you like glue! A true companion and best friend, he is finally at home.
Shiloh reminds
us to always give dogs a second chance. Many times a dog's initial reaction may be to growl or snap, but always consider
the situation and energy of the dog, sometimes they just need second chance to make a first impression.
UPDATE! 1/23/09 New pictures! Shiloh is at his new home and doing better than ever! In a heartwarming
twist, his new mom and dad have decided to rename him Cooper ;). They report that he is settling in with no problems
and loves to roam the property. He even likes the snow!

Shelter Team: Give Hope A ChanceOur dedicated Rescue Team, consisting of all volunteers,
saved a 1 year old female pit bull/lab mix from her concrete cell at a county shelter. This young, gentle girl, who
had obvious signs of nursing a recent litter, survived the high kill pound for 44 days.
Surrendered as a stray, she was placed for adoption and sat in her concrete prison. Emaciated
from nursing pups and a poor diet at the pound, she began to show signs of kennel deterioration. Soon, open sores appeared
and she began to withdrawal into the back of the kennel. Each day, Cooper's Chance searched for a foster home.
She became what we saw for her...Hope.
We worked tirelessly to find a fellow rescue to help place her for a short time. It's
a tough task to find someone willing to take in a Pit Bull, even if it's a mix. Pit Bull's bad reputation transcends
even into the rescue world, however that fear does not stop Cooper's Chance from rescuing
these misunderstood gentle bullies. Our Shelter Walkers watched over her, giving her blankets to lay on, making
sure the staff knew she had someone trying to help her.
Hope never lost her playful
spirit or sweet disposition; a main reason for her survival. The staff adored her so much she was pre-altered in anticipation
of being adopted. All dogs over 4 months must be altered before leaving the shelter; this way she could go home
immediately. But she waited. She awoke from her spay surgery, sore and back in her concrete cell, a thin towel under neath,
she vomited and shivered all through the night.
A day later, our prayers and efforts were answered. Cooper's Chance Animal Rescue Team secured a temporary foster home. On 12/20/08, Hope was rescued and removed from the
county shelter. She was transported to her short term foster home for complete medical care and evaluation. Hope was ecstatic to be out of those terrible conditions. she happily jumped into the vehicle and
curled up on the first fluffy thing she found. Warm and comfy, she slept the entire way to safety. She thrived in her new foster home and instantly became a great dog and wonderful companion.
Her
new Dad saw Hope on petfinder.com, moved by her story, he admired her beautiful color and energetic nature. He adopted her
immediately. Hope spent almost 45 days in a county pound. She found her forever home within
72 hours of being rescued. Please consider being a short term foster. Volunteer to be a Safe House..a drop off point
for a rescue and a foster. Hope gives a chance to all pit bulls and pitty mixes that flood our shelters and pounds. An overwhelming
number of Pit's are euthanized everyday. Most are under 1 year old.

ERT: Abandoned Mom With Litter!Cooper's
Chance Rescue Team responded to a concerned citizens plea for help on 2/11/09 for a young mother and week old pups.
Abandoned and surviving in a desert lot next to a shopping mall in Gilbert, AZ., the black
and white Pit Bull / Heeler Mix was found by construction workers, who were taking care of her while they built a shopping
mall in the lot nearby. They were leaving her water and food, often hearing the pups cry out, but never seeing or getting
close to them. The pups were well hidden, deep in the tumbleweed and brush, the mother growled and snarled whenever approached.
She was very protective, a natural reaction to strangers and needed in an area with dangers such as rattlesnakes, scorpions
and coyotes. Our Rescue Team arrived at the scene and immediately spotted the black pit bull mix, pacing
and barking at our presence, she immediately ran to her hidden pups, aggressive and fearful, she growled at her rescuers.
Unable to sway her away from her litter, the rescue team decided to leave a large trap to catch her. Animal Rescuers will
often use wire like traps to humanely catch an animal. Frequently used in "trap and release"
programs for feral cats that need to be spayed and neutered, these traps are a harmless way to catch a difficult animal in
need of care. Baited with delicious cheeseburgers, she showed a great interest in the food, eating all the
pieces around the trap. The team waited...and waited....returning each hour to see if she was trapped, knowing her
young puppies would need her warmth to survive the night. As the early morning hours came,
so did the county animal control officer. Several attempts to have the county remove her and the pups went unanswered;
finally someone to remove her from this terrible, feral place. The Animal Control Officer
safely removed the mother and her three puppies and transported them to the county shelter in Mesa, AZ. They were evaluated,
processed and returned to a concrete kennel at the county high kill shelter. Cooper's Chance Animal Rescue Shelter Team followed their progress and has agreed to
take in the mom and pups as soon as they are able to be removed by a rescue.
UPDATE:2/18/09 Mom and puppies are
doing well in their new place at county. Mom is much more calmer and is approachable. Her
young puppies look great! She was a great mom out on her own and her puppies were wellcared for.
Cooper's Chance hopes that the pups and mom will find a great home through the county public adoption system. However, we
will not leave a animal behind! Regardless of their health or situation, we will give them a chance. All puppies and mom too
were adopted and now safe and happy in forever homes!
