Msission Completed: Free Puppies Rescued from a box at Walmart

webassets/IMG_5226.JPG

Two 5 week old German Shorthair Pointer puppies were rescued Saturday at a Mesa, AZ. Wal-Mart after their owners were discovered giving them away for free. The puppies were in a cardboard box, sitting in the hot sun without shade or water. A Cooper's Chance supporter and fellow GSP lover, who happened to be shopping that day, approached the owners, inquiring about the puppies. She could see they were not properly cared for, as they looked weak and thin. After speaking with the owners, it was clear all they wanted was to get rid of the puppies, not caring who took them or where they ended up. Like all animal lovers, the rescue angel did what she could to make a difference; grabbing two, a boy and girl, she saved as many as she could and quickly contacted Cooper's Chance for help. We answered the call, providing a safe foster home and lots of care and love.

Wally (boy with liver ticking) and Marti (girl, white with liver spots), rescued from a box at Wal-Mart, are doing wonderful and have fully recovered from the heat exposure they suffered that day. Now, they need the time to grow, explore their world and find a furever home. They will remain in our care for another 6 weeks, and receive complete vet care, socialization, lots of treats, hugs and kisses....times two!

To give them the best chance, we are asking the community to help us care for Wally and Marti by making a donation to their Puppy Fund, or by donating items such as collars, blankets, toys, dog beds, puppy food, etc. Both puppies will need to be completely vetted, which includes 3 series of Booster shots, Rabies vax, Canine Influenza vax, Micro chipping, Spay/Neuter, Heartworm testing, Heartworm preventative and Frontline, all times 2. Not to mention all of the little things, like puppy food, teething toys, treats, collars, blankets and beds.

Please DONATE via CHIPIN to make a difference for these "free" puppies, their lives are worth so much more! All donations to the Wally and Marti Puppy Fund go directly to the care of these puppies. All donations, including items, are 100% tax deductable.

To donate items, please email us at cooperschance@yahoo.com for drop locations and times. You can also purchase a gift certificate to Foster and Smith and have it mailed directly to us. Just click the links and buy, it's green and easy. All products donated will be recycled into our rescue and used for another pet in need, so you know your gift will keep on giving long after these pups find a home.

Msission Completed: The Lucky 13

dogpictures/IMG_4748_2.JPG

Cooper’s Chance ERT saved two abandoned female dogs living in filth. Unknown to us, they were pregnant! After being placed into loving foster homes, their puppies were born safe and healthy January 22, 2011 and January 26, 2011.Our small rescue was blessed, but overwhelmed. We reached out to our volunteers, supporters, community and animal welfare agencies. The response was great and with the help of many, we are happy to announce ALL OF THE LUCKY 13 HAVE BEEN ADOPTED! They are all safe, happy and healthy in their new furever homes. Thank you to everyone for your support of The Lucky 13.

The Lucky 13 are a lucky bunch of puppies! On January 22, 2011 and January 26, 2011, Cooper’s Chance welcomed 7 boys and 6 girls in to our rescue. We are very happy to announce that all puppies have been adopted and are enjoying their news lives in a furever home.

Msission Completed: Tucson Dog Patch

dogpictures/IMG_3066.JPG

TUCSON DUMPING GROUND: A horrific scene was discovered in the desert near Tucson, AZ. What appears to be an animal dumping ground, has gotten the attention of the rescue community. With the combined efforts of several rescue organizations, including Copper's Chance Emergency Rescue Team, plans are now underway to trap and rescue the living dogs that are abandoned, starving and injured.

dogpictures/IMG_3040.JPG

We will be mobilizing our rescue mission 12/26/09.

UPDATE: 12/28/09. Cooper's Chance ERT, with several other volunteers, responded to the horrific situation in the desert south of Tucson. The area, a known dumping site for dead and live animals is called "Dog Patch" by locals. This expansive desert has several residents living within feet of the trash, debris, animal remains, feral dogs, wild life and immigrant camps that cover the area. When we first arrived, we immediately spotted 4 feral dogs in the distance; however they proved to be too quick and were not caught. A young, female Sheppard was later caught by our fellow rescuers and brought in for food, fresh water, medical care and a warm blanket to sleep on. Although we anticipated a much larger amount of dogs rescued, we did receive invaluable information and experience on this location and its ongoing problem. Cooper's Chance ERT will lead several more missions into the Dog Patch to respond and recover as many living animals as possible.

Mission Completed: Eager Abandoned Animal Rescue

peoplepics/Emaileagardogs6.jpg

EAGER, AZ. On October 9, 2009 Coopers Chance Animal Rescue in connection with several volunteers and animal advocates worked together to rescue over 20 dogs abandoned at a home in northeastern Arizona. Coopers Chance learned of the hoarding situation from a compassionate independent animal rescuer in the Valley. The home, without power or water and covered in feces was abandoned by its owner and the animals left to die. The White Mountain Humane Society and County shelter have no resources for caring for so many animals. Their option without our help: euthanasia.

Our small rescue needed help with this mission. And we got it! Several volunteers and fosters stepped up to assist in this massive rescue. People who had never met showed up to assist in any way they could. From donating kennels, food, transportation and fostering, we were able to rescue all abandoned animals and bring them to safety in Chandler, AZ. Also, involved in the rescue was a box of "free" 6 week old puppies being given away that our team picked up on the way out of town and 5 additional dogs from the Eager pound, which were scheduled for euthanasia that day.

With a total of 33 dogs and cats, we are in desperate need of donations. All animals need to be vaccinated, spayed and neutered. You can help by making a donation directly to this cause. We are also in need of foster homes, as some of the dogs are still in boarding, awaiting a loving home to heal in.

dogpictures/E.mail.Bonnie.headshot.jpg

Despite their terrible ordeal, most of the dogs are beginning to relax and feel more secure in their environment; giving affection and becoming more trusting of people. We are seeing progress everyday and continue to give them positive human contact, which is helping many of the dogs break out of their fear and re-connect with humans. The dogs were kept together, so many of them get along with other dogs, in fact, they rely on their comfort. We will be posting pics and bios of all rescued dogs. Please note that these dogs will not be available for adoption until they are completely vetted and altered. If you are interested in adopting one of these precious souls, please send us an email or fill out and adoption application and we will contact you to discuss the dogs progress and possible adoption availability. Check back often, as we will be posting regular updates on this mission.

Enjoy this amazing slideshow of the massive Eager, AZ Rescue on 10/09/09 and then DONATE to help with this mission. Rescuing these animals from deplorable conditions was just the beginning; now we must find foster homes, vet care, vax, spay, neuter, food, socialization, training and finally, a forever home. And we need your help to do it. Abandoned by a hoarder, these animals were not only neglected, but abused. Despite their fear, they are all very sweet and gentle dogs and cats. We are working with each animal to provide socialization and proper training to insure their lives will be productive and happy! Please consider fostering or adopting one of these precious souls. Give them the second chance they deserve! Contact Us at cooperschance@yahoo.com or Donate what you can. It will make a difference!

Rescue Team: Stray Puppies On Death Row!
11/16/08 Kennel 03559 County Shelter-6 Stray 10 week puppies-Cattle dog/Healer mix-All 6 puppies confined in kennel..crowed, disgusting condit
RESCUE TEAM: Stray Puppies on Death Row!
Cooper's Chance Animal Rescue rescued three 10 week old female Cattle dog/Queensland healer mixes. These puppies, surrendered to the county shelter as "stray" were rescued by our Shelter Team. Each week, sometimes every day, this team of dedicated animal protectors does the job that so many volunteers cannot; they walk the shelters. Each visit they see rows of kennels, filled to capacity, sometimes several to one kennel, desperate to be saved, their eyes cry for help. Our shelter volunteers rescue dogs and cats on Death Row.

11/19/08-Cara, thin, weak, leaving her kennel at the shelter.
They found the puppies, 6 total crammed into a kennel, feces covered and coughing, they awaited evaluation, then placed up for public adoption. One of the male's was quickly adopted, the others waited. Each day the kennel grew dirty; unsanitary conditions. Many people will turn in a box of puppies or kittens, expecting the shelter to care for them; or thinking puppies and kitties will get adopted fast. These shelters are over crowed and underfunded, they simply cannot afford the care for thousands of week old puppies. They end up on death row, a cheaper alternative to vaccinations, sterilization, food and socialization. Thanks to our team, who had been watching these puppies from the day of intake, were able to secure approval for rescue of three of the remaining five. Approval is needed for such young puppies; as were removing them before they were old enough for a rabies vaccination and sterilization. Once rescued, the puppies were transported to Cooper's Chance safe house, bathed, evaluated and fed. They responded great to the love and affection, and are enjoying their new foster home with lots of attention and dogs to play and learn from. With the special care of foster volunteer, these puppies will truly have a second chance at a normal, healthy puppy life.
The three girls..10 week cattle dog/heeler mixes..
UPDATE! All puppies have found their forever homes! Each sister has a loving, happy home to spend the holidays with. They are all still very young, but growing quickly and are enjoying their new lives of being spoiled and loved every day. Please remember to spay and neuter your pet, so many more puppies are born each day and do not get a second chance.
Update Mady (now Mati) enjoys her new forever home and being spoiled! Update Mady...shes a keeper! (Mady, now Mati, enjoys her new forever home...being spoiled for Christmas and lots of love!)

Transport Team: Shiloh Finds a Home AZ to NM!
TRANSPORT TEAM: Shiloh Finds A Home! AZ to NM

Shiloh and his transport mom, stop for a potty break and picture on
the way to New Mexico!

Shiloh, a 5 year old Pointer mix who has been with us for several months
has found his new forever home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. On January 20, 2009, Shiloh, along with The Transport
Team, traveled from Phoenix, AZ to the Arizona/New Mexico state line to meet
his new forever family. He shares his new place with a mom and dad and another
pointer mix, whom he gets along great with. Shiloh was rescued from the
Maricopa County animal Control shelter where he was scheduled for euthanasia
due to a common eye condition called "cherry eye". His eye was fixed
with no additional complications. He is a very sweet and gentle boy. Preferring
a quiet, slow paced life, Shiloh's forever family offers him exactly what he
needs and 4 acres of forest to roam. Shiloh quickly became a favorite of our
rescue. He was very shy and weary of strangers; but if he trusted you, he stuck to you like glue! A true companion
and best friend, he is finally at home.

Shiloh reminds us to always give dogs a second chance. Many times a dog's
initial reaction may be to growl or snap, but always consider the situation and
energy of the dog, sometimes they just need second chance to make a first
impression.

UPDATE! 1/23/09 New pictures! Shiloh is at his new home and doing better
than ever! In a heartwarming twist, his new mom and dad have decided to rename
him Cooper ;). They report that he is settling in with no problems and loves to
roam the property. He even likes the snow!

A Pointer mix, Shiloh is in his natural element!

Shiloh in his new home, watching the snow fall and enjoying his
life!

Shelter Team: Give Hope A Chance
Our dedicated Rescue Team, consisting of all volunteers, saved a 1 year old female pit bull/lab mix from her concrete cell at a county shelter. This young, gentle girl, who had obvious signs of nursing a recent litter, survived the high kill pound for 44 days. Surrendered as a stray, she was placed for adoption and sat in her concrete prison. Emaciated from nursing pups and a poor diet at the pound, she began to show signs of kennel deterioration. Soon, open sores appeared and she began to withdrawal into the back of the kennel. Each day, Cooper's Chance searched for a foster home.

She became what we saw for her...Hope.

Only 1 year old, she has nursed a litter...or maybe two. No pups were found with her

We worked tirelessly to find a fellow rescue to help place her for a short time. It's a tough task to find someone willing to take in a Pit Bull, even if it's a mix. Pit Bull's bad reputation transcends even into the rescue world, however that fear does not stop Cooper's Chance from rescuing these misunderstood gentle bullies. Our Shelter Walkers watched over her, giving her blankets to lay on, making sure the staff knew she had someone trying to help her.

Hope never lost her playful spirit or sweet disposition; a main reason for her survival. The staff adored her so much she was pre-altered in anticipation of being adopted. All dogs over 4 months must be altered before leaving the shelter; this way she could go home immediately. But she waited. She awoke from her spay surgery, sore and back in her concrete cell, a thin towel under neath, she vomited and shivered all through the night.

still sweet and deemed adoptable, Pit Bulls are a difficult breed to place. All of our efforts focused on her.

A day later, our prayers and efforts were answered. Cooper's Chance Animal Rescue Team secured a temporary foster home. On 12/20/08, Hope was rescued and removed from the county shelter. She was transported to her short term foster home for complete medical care and evaluation. Hope was ecstatic to be out of those terrible conditions. she happily jumped into the vehicle and curled up on the first fluffy thing she found. Warm and comfy, she slept the entire way to safety. She thrived in her new foster home and instantly became a great dog and wonderful companion.

Her new Dad saw Hope on petfinder.com, moved by her story, he admired her beautiful color and energetic nature. He adopted her immediately. Hope spent almost 45 days in a county pound. She found her forever home within 72 hours of being rescued.
Please consider being a short term foster. Volunteer to be a Safe House..a drop off point for a rescue and a foster. Hope gives a chance to all pit bulls and pitty mixes that flood our shelters and pounds. An overwhelming number of Pit's are euthanized everyday. Most are under 1 year old.
ADOPTED! Hope - F - 1 yr - Lab/ Shar Pei Mix. Survived 60 days at hi kill county pound. Adopted 12/30/08. Interested in being a short term foster or Safe House? email us at: cooperschance@yahoo.com for info & application! Can't volunteer? Donate!
